    Child Abuse and the Laws

    Hello,

The Florida laws are unjust, and do not look out for the best interest of children.  My children's dad was convicted of child abuse but his parental rights were not terminated.  DCF wrote to me on behalf of Jeb Bush, Govenor of Florida, that they reviewed my case with United for Families and have been informed that my children are safe with me, and that their father has been ordered no contact with the children.  They closed our case, and said they will send me a copy of the judicial review and order from court.  I am still waiting one year later for these documents and answers to my five certified letters sent to DCF.  In addition my atttorney has also sent certified letters with no response.   I know that I am not the only one in this situation.  Please check out Florida laws chapter 39.806 Termination of Parental Rights.  I look forward to your comments.

I cannot believe that Gov. Bush and the DCF did not see the importance to this case.  I don't think Gov,. Bush would want his kids subjected to this type of emotional abuse if  it happened in his family.  You even had proof.....what are they waiting for ..............???????

Re: Child Abuse and the Laws

    Hello,

Here is the cruel and unfortunate reality..it seems that in todays society, as long as a kid is not  physically injured  causing permanent damage, that DCF, the courts, society etc tends to think " ehhh the kid will be alright.. BULLCRAP. Emotional and verbal abuse is sometimes worse than physical abuse. Until the courts and the system seriously cracks down on abusers, as well as sex offenders, and dirtbags who prey on children, and makes the person really pay by longer prison terms, losing parental rights, etc. this will continue on.

Its a shame that there's this notion that if its a parent who abused the child that the parent is still the parent and should still have a say in the childs life. The damage the abuser has done will last this child a lifetime, the scars may never go away, yet child abusers are walking the streets hours after they are arrested sometimes..I know first hand from my line of work.

Jodi I am with you in this great cause/fight you are fighting. Whatever you need. IF MORE PEOPLE took a stand childrens lives would be spared and saved. Your ex husband should lose ALL RIGHTS to his children. he lost the right to be a parent when he did what he did.     God bless~ Joann

I agree that emotional and verbal abuse is sometimes worse than physical .......it lasts a lifetime......you will always remember that *** and the impact it left in one's mind.   What  gives this man the right to have the rights to his children?  Take his rights away no child should have a parent encourage violence ..........there is no excuse for this ***.........everyone needs to open their eyes and do something!!!!!!!   Start a petition .......many will back you up, Jodi!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Child Abuse and the Laws

Child abuse is not fair but happens everywhere.  A parent must loose their rights to their children.  Why would they be allowed to have rights?  Does the system want this abuse to happen again or maybe worsen. Stop it before it goes to far termiante the father's rights.  Think of the children for a change and protect their lives while you still can.

Re: Child Abuse and the Laws

I just watched the Montel show and cannot believe what I heard.  I canot believe that the State of Florida did not terminate this father's rights.  I do think people need to write letters to the Govenor and the Congressman.  Termination of this man's rights should have been done automatically.  What is wrong with this State?  I am glad I do not live in Florida!

Re: Child Abuse and the Laws

    Hello,

I have been reading your emails I realize not everyone is writing their comments in the forum but sending me emails and I thank you all!  I do agree that emotional and verbal abuse is sometimes worse than physical abuse and abuse definately scars.  Many have been writing that they cannot believe my X did not loose his parental rights.  As I stated in my letters to the politicians animals have more rights in the State of Florida than children.  Don't get me wrong my family and I love animals.........but as I stated if you abuse an animal you are brought up on charges and loose the rights to that animal.  You never see that animal again, so why should a child be any different.  If you watched the Montel show the second story a father murdered his son's mother .....the son had to fight the State of Massachusetts to emancipate his rights to his father.  This brave boy was the first child to ever do this in MA .  Why should a child have to take on this responsibility and protect themselves from the abuse they have encountered?

    INTERESTING

For the past twenty years, Family Court's have purposelly managed to keep parents, usually mothers, from protecting their abused children.  There are thousands of cases where Family Court Judges order children to be ripped away from the Protective Parent and placed directly into the unsafe hands of their abusers.  JUDICIAL ABUSE HAS BECOME THE NEWEST FACE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ONE OF AMERICA'S DARKEST SECRETS.

Re: Child Abuse and the Laws

     IS EMOTIONAL ABUSE TAKEN SERIOUSLY?

I was reading an article written by Andrew Vachss, a New York attorney who only represents children who have been abused, as well as an author who is an expert on child abuse.   Vachss states emotional abuse scars the heart and damages the soul.  Vachss also says  "Emotional abuse is like cancer it does its most deadly work internally, like cancer it can metastasize if untreated."  Vachss has dedicated his life to protecting children. People have asked him about his worst cases...... and Vachss stated of all the many forms of abuse...emotional abuse may be the cruelest and longest lasting of all!!!!

Re: Child Abuse and the Laws

My apologies I received a few emails asking WHAT IS VAWA?  VAWA is Violence Against Woman's Act that President Bush signed on January 6,2006. THE VAWA program needs funding; to date the bill only includes important increases in Services, Training, Officers, and Prosecuters, and Legal Assistance for funding.   However, funding is still needed which would increase services for children in shelters, teens experiencing dating violence, and other important services for children and youth in your community and states.

Congressman INSLEE (D-WA) and Congressman BROWN-WAITE (R-FL)  will propose new funding for our children and youths in our communities who have witnessed doemstic and sexual violence or who have experienced this violence in their own relationships.

    PLEASE   CONTACT CONGRESS A.S.A.P.

give your name .....city.....state.....you live in.  SAY "YES" TO  INSLEE/BROWN-WAITE amendment.   YOU CAN HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
