Domestic Violence, high risk to child safety

As a Social Worker working in Child Welfare, I can say with a profound opinion, that domestic violence creates a high risk to child safety, and mentle health.  Children get hurt trying to defend the abused parent, or the abused parent is holding a baby, ect.  The plausablities of physical injuries are endless.  The mentle impairments are equaly endless.  It's very simple, we love the way we were loved...we parent the way we were parented...we abuse the way we were abused.

Not all abuseres grow up to abuse, however, most victimizers were once victims of  the abuse they have grown to administer.

    Thanks rclassfe,

You must see and hear alot of child abuse cases especially working firsthand with child welfare as a social worker.  Your comments are greatly appreciated .  What state do you work in as a social worker?

    Hi,

First let me say, that it is refreshing and a pleasure to see someone take initiative to contribute to the betterment of child safety.  I am more than pleased to participate. It has been said after all, that "It takes a villiage to raise a child (aftrican saying).

I work with in with United for Families in Florida.

What a great proverb...."it takes a village to raise  a child"  we are all suppose to be the village......setting positive examples and leading the younger generation to a bright and promising future ....teaching them right from wrong !!!!

Re: Domestic Violence, high risk to child safety

My own personal view reflects the sentiments of many...namely that domestic violence directly affects children and that they are at risk physically, and emotionally.  But, often the cycle continues, because the women and men that this abuse is predicated on, believe that for some reason they deserve it (as you stated, Jodi, in one of your letters) or that they can somehow "fix" the situation.  Unfortunately, the abusers almost never stop.  In fact, the violence increases with time.  I am glad to see you speak out Jodi.  It takes alot of courage to do so.  I believe that attackers and domestic abusers are motivated by the victims fear and the fact that they think they can get away with their abuse.  I think we also need to ask for stiffer laws in this area as well.

I am going to go out on a limb here and ask your forum's readers to think about something....I hope that I get many responses.  Make no mistake when I say this that domestic abusers encoumpass both men and women.  But why have the laws not become stiffer when we statistically know that the violence ends when the victim is dead in most cases.  Now, are laws not changed and attention not given to domestic violence cases, because congress is primarily men and they don't care enough about this cause?  I feel that government is midguided.  We are spending more time on the local government level wondering whether to build a new sports arena in Miami than we are paying attention to these serious problems!

I urge all those who agree or disagree with me (especially the men) to write to this forum!

It is time to wake up!

Thats why you have to beat up your kids and abuse your husband. I know all about you and as a social worker you should know first hand the consecuences that these are going to bring you . First your job and then that *** lover you have. Dont you know how screwed up your kids are because of all this. One thing is to keep your extra marital affairs to yourself. but then you have to go to the house and verbally and phisically abuse your children, that is just plain wrong. And next time any of your kids come to my office and tell me the things they have about you. I WILL BE THE ONE CALLING SOCIAL SERVICES ON YOU AFTER I HAVE YOU ARRESTED

very powerful words, but i am wondering if you are referring to the right case that Jodi speaks of. I wasn't aware that she was married, but then again, i don't live in Florida, and i wouldn't know. I am sorry you are so angry.

    Jodi,

Just wondering....since Woody's abuse charge was over turned, does that mean he will be getting out earlier than 2014?

Re: Domestic Violence, high risk to child safety

    HI SHIRLEY 42..........

You are right I was NEVER MARRIED......also I am not a SOCIAL WORKER..............and I am  heterosexual.........

There has been NO reply.......from Shawn the *** as to who they were referring to...........when they made these comments ..........they do sound very upset and angry!!

Edward Munao's release date was updated through the Department of Corrections here in Florida in mid FEB 2007.........although the date will change when more gain time is averaged in and calcualted ..............I was told January 4, 2009 is posted on the DOC.   However, I was also told it can be anywhere from three to four months earlier which would be Oct/Nov 2008.   The inmates gain 10 days per month for good behavior which will get averaged in the release date........ FL  inmates serve 85% of their sentence,  gain time makes up the rest of the sentence.

What state do you live in??

Re: Domestic Violence, high risk to child safety

    Jodi,

When i first responded to your posting and the posting of Shawn, i was hiding. I didn't want you to know who i am......I'm sorry to have decieved you. I live in Connecticut, and i am the mother of Woody's first born daughter. Please don't get nervous, i am not hating on you or anyone else in you fight for justice. The laws in Fl, CT or anyother state don't support children or families as we, the parent feels they should. I am happy that you are fighting for your beliefs. If one does wrong, then one must deal with the consequenses. I found out about your story, purely by accident. I never had much communication with Woody through the years, and every now and then i would enter his name into the computer. Low and behold this article pops up. Imagin my surprise and fears. Anyway, i don't know everything. To be honest, i don't think i want to.........only because, directly, it doesn't involve me, but indirectly it does. I don't know if you could understand that. I don't want to put any more on this post board, if you would like to communicate with me.....let me know, we will figure out a way to talk without putting it all out there for everyone to read.

Re: Domestic Violence, high risk to child safety

    Iris,

I commend you for contacting Jodi,

I can only imagine wha you may be thinking as the mother of  "Woody's" first born!  I wonder what all of the women that he has been involved with would say, if they were all in a room together?  I wonder if his behavior that landed him in jail is something that he has done to others?  How horrifying would that be!  I can only keep on praying for the children, that they are protected and grow up to lead normal, healthy lives!

Re: Domestic Violence, high risk to child safety

    Shawn,

You have some very strong words, and quite a bit of passion!

I think it would be great to use that to fight for children's rights!

They need strong people to fight on their behalf.

I am only concerned, because you seem so angry....at I am not sure who?

Is there more to your words than you are saying?

    Please keep your thoughts coming.

    Thanks,

    Suzie Bee

Re: Domestic Violence, high risk to child safety

    Hey Susie,

Thanks for responding.....Your right, it's was extremely shocking for me to find the initial story. Even the most recent story of his appeal. I'm sorry for Jodi's struggle with him, it is a side of him, i of course, never saw; but then again, i didn't stay around long enough to encounter it. I came back to Conn. shortly after i found out i was pregnant. I am also sorry for her children. They will suffer the most. I've read quite a bit of the comments on this site, and you seem to be quite supportive to Jodi. Thank you. Keep up the positive support.

    Iris
